Cerundolo announces:

Cerundolo announces: "I can play a great tournament in Paris".

Francisco Cerundolo is feeling better. Since his final in Rio (lost to Baez 7-5, 6-0), the Argentinian had been struggling to get back on track (5 wins in 10 matches before Madrid). The world No. 22, who is very comfortable on clay, has now found himself at the top of his game.

After a very convincing tournament in Spain (quarter-final elimination of Zverev in the eighth round), the 25-year-old has regained his ambition less than a month before Roland Garros: "I arrived without any great expectations, but little by little, I've gained confidence in myself. [...] Roland Garros is the Grand Slam in which I have the most confidence, it's the one in which I've done the best so far. I think I can have a great tournament in Paris."

In comments relayed by Punto de Break, the man who will be seeded at Porte d'Auteuil was keen to put the importance of results in a tennis player's life into perspective: "People think that tennis players are robots, that we go on court just to play, but outside of that, we have a life with our family, our friends and our spouses. [...] You mustn't put too much pressure on yourself; if you don't achieve what you set out to do, it's not the end of the world either, but you mustn't fall apart mentally because of the expectations you weren't able to meet.

In any case, Cerundolo will have to continue his fine form in Rome, where he reached the quarter-finals last year (beaten by Casper Ruud).
