Monfils and Wawrinka interrupted by the night at Wimbledon
Gaël Monfils is in fine form at the moment, but he still couldn't finish the match before darkness arrived (7-6, 6-4, 5-5).
Up against the eternal Stan Wawrinka, the Frenchman played some top-quality tennis, not once conceding his serve (12 aces) and causing a lot of damage in the exchange (33 winners, 19 unforced errors).
On the other side of the court, the Swiss gave nothing away. Fighting to the bitter end and saving a huge number of break points (9), he got some breathing space and will be able to attempt to topple his opponent tomorrow (Thursday).
As the match was stopped at a pivotal moment in the third act (5-5), the two players will not be allowed to offer a diesel start.
