Heroic Jarry topples Tsitsipas in Rome

Heroic Jarry topples Tsitsipas in Rome

A true Chilean festival has hit Italy. After Alejandro Tabilo's qualification on Wednesday, this time it was Nicolas Jarry who booked his place in the semi-finals. Up against a very confident Stefanos Tsitsipas, the world number 24 showed great resilience to win (3-6, 7-5, 6-4 in 2h39).

In a high-level duel in which both men played very aggressive tennis, it was Jarry who came out on top. Bluffing with realism, the Chilean saved 11 break points over the course of the match. He dominated for a long time, but managed to hold his nerve and finally took advantage of the Greek's slump to beat him at the post.

Quickly trailing by a break and then by a set (3-6), the 26-year-old never gave up. Dominated for much of the second act, he finally held his serve, saving several break points, before surprising Tsitsipas at the best of times to come back (7-5). Bis repetita in the final set. Despite a superb start from his opponent, Jarry broke again before making a final break, synonymous with victory (3-6, 7-5, 6-4). Qualifying on the strength of a bluffing last-ditch defense, he will now experience his first career Masters 1000 semi-final.

For his part, Tsitsipas missed a huge opportunity. In view of the Roman hecatomb, the world number 8 had a great chance of winning the title. Surprised by a very relaxed opponent, he'll have to wait if he wants to add his name to the tournament's list of honours. Although in fine form, he'll have to do even better to win at Roland Garros in just over a week's time.

As for Nicolas Jarry, he'll have to get over his emotions quickly, as he'll be back on court tomorrow to take on Tommy Paul, who defeated Hubert Hurkacz earlier in the day (7-5, 3-6, 6-3).

Maybe.....everything is possible. Who knows which Novak will show up on court. The only thing that we can be 100% sure .......The GOAT will still remain The GOAT, regardless of this match outcome.

He needs more variety in his play in my opinion, all I see him do is hit hard and when that doesn't work he gets mad with himself.
