In London, Thompson is living a daydream!

In London, Thompson is living a daydream!

We didn't see that one coming! Jordan Thompson, who has been suffering from a severe lack of confidence for several weeks now, is enjoying a prodigious tournament.

He hadn't won a match since Barcelona, but a string of prestigious victories has breathed new life into his 2024 season.

Defying all the odds, the 30-year-old is set to contest the semi-finals of the ATP 500 at Queen's this Saturday.

Swept aside in Bois-le-Duc (by Raonic, 6-4, 6-3), he didn't hesitate. Ending a run of 5 consecutive defeats, he rediscovered his very best tennis in the first round to topple Holger Rune, ranked 15th in the world and seeded 7th in the tournament (4-6, 7-6, 6-3).

Benefiting from Andy Murray's forfeit in the round of 16 (4-1 ab.), Thompson achieved another feat on Friday. Faced with a Fritz who seemed very much in his element, the Australian delivered a very high-level performance (6-4, 6-3).

Playing very close to his line, he was very efficient on serve (0 break points conceded, 9 aces, 79% of points won on first serve) and perfectly incisive in the exchange (22 winners, 9 unforced errors).

Taking advantage of an American not yet at his best, the right-hander will attempt to prolong the dream this Saturday. For a place in the final, he will face Lorenzo Musetti, who defeated De Minaur in the first round (1-6, 6-4, 6-2).

He will not even make it past the quarterfinals. Then he will blame the injury he felt so food about. 😅🤣😂

Not that he was facing that stiff of competition, but after winning Eastbourne I wonder if Fritz, seeded 13th, actually has a better chance at going deep into W than 4th seed Zverev.
