On cloud nine, Tabilo takes the lead against Zverev in Rome
What a week and what a tournament for Alejandro Tabilo! The Chilean arrived in Rome full of confidence, having won the title in Aix-en-Provence prior to the tournament. He defeated Novak Djokovic in the third round (6-2, 6-3), and continues to inspire the Italian public. After a hard-fought victory over Khachanov (7-6, 7-6), he followed it up perfectly against Zhang in the quarters (6-3, 6-4).
Without slowing down, Tabilo is extending the dream. Up against a Zverev who has been very impressive since the start of the tournament, the world number 32 made an absolutely fantastic start to his semi-final (6-1 in 32 minutes). Taking advantage of an Alexander Zverev a little too much on the back foot, the Chilean delivered a near-perfect first act. Ultra-aggressive, he used heavy shots to dominate a helpless German (10 winners, 2 unforced errors, 2 aces).
For his part, the world number 5 will have to wake up and offer a much better level of play if he wants to get back into this match. The only member of the "top ten" still in the running, Zverev has a clear chance of the title, but will have to pull himself together if he is to reach the final.
