Bertolucci's assessment of Medvedev: "He doesn't notice that others are advancing while he is regressing".
Daniil Medvedev hasn't had his best season on the ATP circuit.
The Russian, who was a finalist at the Australian Open in early 2024, ended the year without a single title. The world's 5th-ranked player was particularly known for his outbursts on court.
Italian tennis legend Adriano Panatta was not so kind when he spoke of Medvedev.
"What he showed in such an inelegant way was just frustration, because his opponent served very well.
When there are players who don't let you play and you can't get into the rhythm, that's when these overreactions start.
He's suffering a lot from the fact that his level has dropped during this period," he said on Rai 2.
For his part, Paolo Bertolucci, also a former professional tennis player, spoke of the Russian's behavior on the court in recent months.
"He should be rushed to a nursing home and put on tranquilizers. Daniil doesn't notice that the others are advancing while he's regressing," he assured us dryly.
