Grand Slam qualifying is crucial for any player outside the top 100, and is by far the most lucrative event of their year, when compared with the prize money of the Challengers.
Qualifying for a Grand Slam is a relief for any player, as the financial reward allows them to approach the season with greater serenity, and less stress linked to financing it.
This Thursday, 32 men and 32 women will compete in the final round of qualifying for a place in the final draw, guaranteeing a prize of 132,000 Australian dollars.
Defeat pays just $72,000, a difference of $60,000.
