Stosur on Murray: "Andy took his role as Djokovic's coach very seriously".

Stosur on Murray: Andy took his role as Djokovic's coach very seriously.

Andy Murray is Novak Djokovic's new coach. The news was one of the top tennis stories of late 2024.

The Scot accompanied the Serb during the Australian Open, and Djokovic managed to reach the semi-finals before retiring in his match against Alexander Zverev.

Djokovic, who was in the hunt for a 25th Grand Slam at the Australian Open, told a press conference that he had not yet spoken to Murray about a possible continuation of the collaboration between the two former rivals on the ATP circuit for the rest of the season.

Sam Stosur, a former professional player who reached world No. 4 in 2011, spoke about the last few weeks of work between the two men.

"A lot of people were skeptical when Novak announced this choice.

However, when I saw that Murray was walking down the corridors with Djokovic's rackets in his hands to get them strung, I realized that Andy has taken his role as coach very seriously.

I think everyone was surprised, maybe even Andy himself. First, Novak called him, and then Murray agreed. I don't know the details of their collaboration and I don't know if it's going to last or not.

But having someone like Andy Murray on your staff is a good thing, because he knows what it's like to win this kind of tournament, he knows what it costs.

Andy knows how to take on the best players in the world, how to recover between matches and how to manage himself.

If he really does have an extra asset that could help Novak and give him something compared to his previous coaches, who knows?

It could make the difference for their collaboration to continue," the 40-year-old Australian elaborated for Tennis Up To Date.
