Ugo Humbert has just qualified for the 2nd round of the US Open at Flushing Meadows (New York City). The Frenchman didn't have to force his talent to defeat Thiago Monteiro in three sets (6-3, 6-4, 6-4) and just over two hours.
The Brazilian, ranked 75th in the world, was far too approximate to worry his opponent of the day (37 unforced errors for 23 winners). More precise and consistent (32 unforced errors for 34 winners), without playing his best tennis, Humbert came through without a hitch.
The Frenchman, ranked 17th in the world, will face either Switzerland's Dominic Stricker or Argentina's Francisco Comesana in the 2nd round.
