Hubert Hurkacz gave himself a scare, but eventually recovered to win and book his ticket for the rest of the tournament.
Up against Radu Albot (144th, qualifier), the Pole struggled to get into his stride, making far too many unforced errors.
That said, the world No. 7 gradually regained control of the match with an increasingly effective first serve (24 aces, 85% of points won on his first serve), and finally won in just over 2h30 (5-7, 6-4, 6-3, 6-4).
With almost 50 winners throughout the match, the unfortunate Halle finalist is now through to the second round, where he will face the winner of the match between Fils and Stricker.
