Maria Sakkari reassured herself this Monday on the grass of the All England Club. After 4 consecutive defeats, in Rome, Roland Garros, Berlin and Bad Homburg, the Greek player made it through to the first round of Wimbledon.
She easily beat American qualifier Mccartney Kessler in just over an hour and two sets (6-3, 6-1). After a tight first 5 games, Sakkari dominated the rest of the match, winning 10 of the last 11 games.
In the second round, the world no. 9 will face China's Yue Yuan or Dutchwoman Arantxa Rus on Wednesday.
