Although the Australian Open is Novak Djokovic's most successful Grand Slam with 10 victories, he has admitted to trauma when he goes there.
In January 2022, he had been forced to leave the country because he had entered unvaccinated, contrary to pandemic restrictions.
He says: "To be quite frank, the last two times I landed in Australia, to go through passport control and immigration, I had a little trauma going back three years."
The Premier of the State of Victoria, where the city of Melbourne is located, reacted: "Covid has been a difficult time for all of us.
No matter who you were or what you did, it was a difficult time."
