Alcaraz defeats Borges despite losing a set
Carlos Alcaraz has qualified for the last 16 of the Australian Open. He won 6-2, 6-4, 6-7, 6-2.
The Spaniard dropped a set, the third, in the tie-break. He hit 54 winners to 50 unforced errors.
A mixed result for the world No. 3, who will have to raise his game in the next round.
In his usual offbeat tone, he was asked during the post-match interview what tattoo he would get if he were to win the tournament in Melbourne.
He replied, "It'll be a kangaroo, of course."
Carlos Alcaraz became the fourth Open-era player to win 10 men's singles matches in each of the four Grand Slam tournaments before his 22nd birthday, following in the footsteps of Mats Wilander, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic.
He will face the winner of the match between Aleksandar Vukic and Jack Draper in the Round of 16.
