Parry eliminated by Vekic at the Australian Open

The Australian Open 2025 is underway! Despite the rain disrupting the schedule on the annex courts, several matches went ahead as planned, including the meeting between Diane Parry and Donna Vekic.

On the Margaret Court Arena, the Frenchwoman, ranked 66th in the world, didn't have an easy draw against the Croatian, seeded 18 and singles silver medallist at the last Olympic Games.

At the end of a controlled match, Vekic got the job done and won in 1 hour 45 minutes (6-4, 6-4).

Beaten in the third round by Mirra Andreeva last year in Melbourne, the Nice native fell at the first hurdle.

For her part, Vekic, who was eliminated in the first round in 2024, confirms her return to form and could face Marketa Vondrousova in the second round.

The Czech, who gave up a few days ago in tears against Diana Shnaider in Adelaide, will face Jana Fett, Vekic's compatriot.

"When I saw the schedule and found out I was playing on this court, I was really happy and excited. It's great to be back in Australia.

I've had a tough time here. I've won a few matches, but I've also had some tough losses to swallow. I hope it's going to be a good year for me," said Vekic on the court after her success.
