The first day of the Australian Open continues. After Arthur Fils's qualification, a second member of the French delegation will see the second round in Melbourne.
This is Hugo Gaston, who got the better of Australian wild card Omar Jasika, ranked 180th in the world.
Well into his match in this opposition between left-handed players, Gaston produced a total of 55 winning shots (including 12 aces) and also had less waste than his opponent (33 unforced errors compared to Jasika's 37).
He logically won 6-2, 3-6, 6-2, 6-2 in 2h30 and will face the winner of the match between Lehecka and Tu in his next match.
This is the first victory in 2025 for Gaston, 24, who lost in the first round of qualifying for the Adelaide tournament to Yannick Hanfmann in early January.
It is also his first success in the main draw of a Grand Slam since the Australian Open a year ago, against Roberto Carballes Baena.
