The 2024 tennis season is drawing to a close. The boss of the circuit is Jannik Sinner, author of an excellent year marked by his first two Grand Slam titles, the ATP Finals and the Davis Cup, among others.
In second place is Alexander Zverev. Carlos Alcaraz is on the third step of the podium despite his Indian Wells title and wins at Roland Garros and Wimbledon.
Speaking on the Inside-In podcast, Paul Annacone, who has coached the likes of Sampras and Federer, expressed his incomprehension at the way in which the ATP rankings are compiled.
"In my opinion, Alexander Zverev has had an incredible year. The number of points he's been able to score since January speaks for itself.
He's played enormously, but if you win two Grand Slams and you're not number 2 in the world, that means there's a problem in the system," he said.
This year, the German is the second most successful player on the circuit, behind the untouchable Sinner with 68.
He reached the final of the French Open and also won two Masters 1000 titles, in Rome and Paris-Bercy.
