Before the start of the ATP Finals, which he has won twice in his career, Alexander Zverev spoke about the difficulties he encounters during Grand Slam tournaments.
The world No.2, a finalist at this year's French Open, admitted that he tends to lose a lot of energy in his opening rounds at major tournaments: "At the beginning, I play very long matches, which go to five sets against players against whom I perhaps shouldn't play five sets.
At the end of the week, that affects my level of fatigue.
Here (at the Masters), on the contrary, I know that if I don't play my best tennis from the start, I won't have the opportunity to win. Maybe it's a question of mentality that I need to have at Grand Slams too."
