BJK Cup - After two marathon matches, Poland, led by Swiatek, eliminates Spain!
The Billie Jean King Cup quarter-final between Poland and Spain, originally scheduled for Wednesday, finally went ahead this afternoon.
Poland avoided the decisive double by winning both singles. Magda Linette first emerged victorious from a match lasting almost four hours (3 hours and 51 minutes) against Sara Sorribes Tormo (7-6, 2-6, 6-4). The Spaniard hit only 12 winners in the match.
After this first marathon, it was the turn of Iga Swiatek and Paula Badosa to play the second singles. The world no. 2 found the resources to overcome Badosa in three sets and 2h37 of play (6-3, 6-7, 6-1).
After the big battle, the two players exchanged a long hug at the net (see video below).
Thanks to these two victories, Poland has qualified for the quarter-finals of the BJK Cup, where it will face the Czech Republic, represented by world No.26 Linda Noskova and world No.1 doubles player Katerina Siniakova.
