Slovakia beat Great Britain to join Italy in the BJK Cup final!
Slovakia may be in the process of springing a huge surprise at this 2024 edition of the Billie Jean King Cup. After beating the USA in the Round of 16, then Australia in the quarter-finals, Matej Liptak's players eliminated Great Britain on Tuesday to reach the final of the event.
The Slovaks were by no means favourites, however, and logic was perfectly respected when Katie Boulter led one set to nil (6-2) in the second singles, after Emma Raducanu had beaten Viktoria Hruncakova (6-4, 6-4).
But Rebecca Sramkova managed to turn the tide, eventually defeating Boulter in two hours and three sets (2-6, 6-4, 6-4). Confidence was now in the balance. Hruncakova and Tereza Mihalikova easily overcame Olivia Nicholls and Heather Watson in the decisive doubles (6-2, 6-2).
In Wednesday's final, Slovakia will face Jasmine Paolini's Italy, who beat Iga Swiatek's Poland on Monday.
