A humble Swiatek reflects on her Wimbledon defeat: "I know I didn't rest properly after the French Open".
After an unsuspected defeat in the 3rd round (3-6, 6-1, 6-2, to Putintseva), Iga Swiatek spoke out and admitted to having lacked energy.
While nothing seemed able to stop the fabulous Pole, she humbly reminds us that everyone needs a rest: "My energy reservoir, which enabled me to push my limits, suddenly ran dry at the start of the second set. I was a bit surprised. But I know I didn't rest properly after the French Open.
I'm not going to make that mistake again. After such a difficult clay-court season, I really need to recover."
The winner of Roland Garros for the fourth time this year needs to take a breather. Known for her mental strength, she explains that her schedule for next year could be modified to take this slump into account: "I thought I was going to be able to, I don't know, play at the same level. I feel that on grass, I need a little more energy to remain patient and accept certain mistakes. Mentally, I didn't perform very well in this tournament.
I need to recover better after the clay-court season, both physically and mentally. Maybe next year I'll take a vacation (between Roland Garros and Wimbledon, editor's note) and do nothing".
