Alcaraz: "I try not to think that I'm the reigning champion".
Defending champion that he is, Carlos Alcaraz has approached Wimbledon 2024 no differently than he did the 2023 edition. Some players are galvanized by this special status, but not the Spaniard, who instead tries to approach the tournament like any other and each match like any other. That's what he explained at the press conference.
Carlos Alcaraz: "I try not to think about the fact that I'm the defending champion. I go into every game thinking that I obviously have a chance of losing. Every match is a war.
Opponents will give their all to beat you. That goes without saying. And I tell myself that I have to be a good player in this match.
I tell myself I've got to play my best tennis if I want to keep going. Honestly, from the start of the tournament, I didn't think I was the defending champion. I'm trying to get better every day, to progress and play better tennis in every match.
So it was a bit of a similar feeling to last year."
