Alcaraz on his first victory on the ATP Tour: "It will always be unforgettable".
Carlos Alcaraz defeated Marin Cilic on Monday at the ATP 500 Doha. Present at the press conference, the Spaniard was asked about his first victory on the ATP circuit, in Rio in 2020, which celebrates its fifth anniversary.
Alcaraz recalls that match and how far he's come since: "It was like a dream, I remember it as something very special.
At that time, everything was very different, which is perhaps why I remember it as a dream, even though it was also a very difficult time because of the pandemic and all the difficulties it caused within the circuit.
It's incredible that five years have already gone by since then, and there's no doubt that it's been an incredible journey to get here, but this victory will always be unforgettable, given that it's the first.
I've achieved a lot of my goals, I've been world number 1, I've won Grand Slam titles, so I can only describe this whole journey as a dream."
He will face the winner between Luca Nardi and Zhizhen Zhang in the next round in Doha.
