Alcaraz praises Bautista Agut: He is an example of self-transcendence and resilience.

Carlos Alcaraz couldn't have taken Spain all the way to the Final 8 on his own.

However, if the Spaniards have already qualified for the Davis Cup finals, scheduled for November in Malaga, it's also thanks to the eternal Roberto Bautista Agut.

As the faithful No. 2, the experienced Spaniard won both his singles matches, each time against opponents ranked much higher than him.

By Wednesday, he had dominated Jiri Lehecka, 22 and ranked 37th in the world (7-6, 6-4).

But perhaps his greatest achievement was his victory over Arthur Fils in the match against France.

Largely dominated, Bautista Agut gave nothing away, using the support of the crowd to topple the 20-year-old Frenchman in just under 3 hours (2-6, 7-5, 6-3).

When asked about Bautista Agut's superb victory, Alcaraz was full of praise for his 36-year-old compatriot's performance: "He's a great fighter. To beat him, you need incredible mental strength.

He spent three hours running from one side to the other against Fils, who has an incredible physique, and he never collapsed.

Today's match (Friday) should be shown to all kids who want to play tennis.

He's an example of self-transcendence, exemplary attitude and resilience.

Watching his match gave me great motivation for my own."
