Annacone on Alcaraz: "The Olympic Games broke his heart".
Roger Federer's former coach, Paul Annacone, has spoken to the Inside-In podcast in recent hours. In particular, he spoke about Carlos Alcaraz's season.
The Spaniard has won two Grand Slams and a silver medal at the Olympic Games, but according to the American, he's no longer happy on the court.
"You have to find what motivates you and stick to it. I think Carlos Alcaraz is a happy player. This year, he's lost that joy a little bit, and for a number of reasons," he commented.
"One of his greatest achievements has also been one of his biggest obstacles to deal with this season, winning "only" a silver medal.
Which is a great performance, but I think it broke his heart at the Olympics. It must have destabilized him for the rest of the year.
I think he bounced back perfectly by winning Beijing, but he had a few defeats and fell ill before the ATP Finals.
It's been a bit hectic for him, but he's got a good head on his shoulders and a great team around him. There's no reason why this shouldn't be just a blip."
