Arnaldi, an exhausted winner: It was the longest day of my career.

The Montreal Masters 1000 is full of surprises this year.

With a switch from clay to American hardcourts and capricious weather, the surprises just keep on coming in Montreal.

So, while many of the Cadors have stumbled, Matteo Arnaldi is making the most of it.

After defeating Khachanov in the second round (7-5, 7-5), he had a very special Saturday.

Due to capricious weather conditions, the Transalpine had to play two matches in a row on the same day, forcing him to endure a particularly grueling day.

Physically exploding Davidovich Fokina at the start of the day (4-6, 7-6, 3-0 ab.), he then returned to the courts to master Kei Nishikori in two sets (6-4, 7-5).

Having qualified for the semi-finals after spending over 4 hours on court, Arnaldi was exhausted.

When questioned by the press, he made no secret of the fact: "I think it was the longest day of my tennis career.

I arrived here at 9am this morning and now it's almost 1am, so it was a very long day where I played two good matches.

Even with the rain, there was a bit of a delay, but I'm happy with the way I was on the court.

I'll try to recover as best I can, and hopefully tomorrow will be a good match."

For a place in the final, he will face Andrey Rublev, who defeated Sinner in the quarter-finals (6-3, 1-6, 6-2).
