Matteo Berrettini hasn't had the easiest of seasons. Once again hit by injury, the 28-year-old Italian made his return to the main circuit in March for the Miami Masters 1000.

His performances enabled him to climb back to 34th in the world rankings, and he also played an important role in his country's Davis Cup triumph.

Revenge for the Wimbledon 2021 finalist, who had watched his team-mates lift the same trophy last year from the stands.

In an interview with Quotidiano Sportivo, Matteo's father Luca Berrettini spoke of his son: "Our embrace after the Davis Cup final was a liberating and spontaneous gesture.

It meant a lot not only for the match we won, but above all for the year that had just gone by. Matteo has spent months working to experience emotions like that.

Luca Berrettini went on to talk about the state of mind of his son, who has had one setback after another for several months: "Since the start of his career, we've always believed in him.

When he came back from injury, he always managed to win tournaments and climb the rankings. Of course, the physical setback he suffered at the US Open had the biggest impact on his mental state: he felt the sky falling.
