Constant Tiafoe, Frances' father: "I couldn't afford a babysitter, so I took the kids to work"
Frances Tiafoe's career is filled with success, and the American undoubtedly has no money problems. For her father, Constant, that wasn't always the case.
He and his wife moved to the United States from Sierra Leone in the early 1990s.
They wanted to escape a country in the midst of civil war, hoping for a better life in America. He explains: "I thought that if I came here, maybe it would be better than over there.
I worked in construction, and we were building a tennis academy. I knew nothing about tennis. I was a bit like a cleaner.
When I started working, I couldn't afford a babysitter, so I took the kids with me to work.
It was automatic, they'd play tennis, because it was the only thing we saw. You had to be good. Believe it or not, the parents of the other kids would come up to me and tell me that my son played tennis very well."
