De Minaur: "It was the biggest match of my career".
It's a huge blow for Alex De Minaur. Author of a prodigious 2024 season and back on his favorite surface, the Australian will finally have to forego playing his Wimbledon quarter-final against Novak Djokovic.
Having risen to this level with great authority, the current world number 9 will not be able to attempt to topple Djokovic and reach his first Grand Slam semi-final.
In a very emotional press conference, he explained that he had injured his hip during his match against Arthur Fils (6-2, 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 win in the Round of 16) and could not risk making it worse: "I have an announcement to make. I'm devastated, but I have to withdraw from the tournament because of a hip injury. I felt a crack on the last three points of my match against Fils.
I had a scan yesterday (Tuesday) and it confirmed that it was an injury with a high risk of aggravation. At that stage, it was the biggest game of my career. I wanted to do everything I could to play."
