Dimitrov's love letter to tennis: "You've broken my heart more than once, but I thank you for it"
In a video produced by the ATP, Grigor Dimitrov recited his love letter to tennis, the sport he began as a youngster and was lucky enough to be able to play professionally.
World No. 3 in 2017 after his title at the Masters, the Bulgarian returned to the Top 10 this year at the age of 33.
For ATP, he decided to talk about his "love affair" with tennis: "Dear tennis, it's a long love affair we have together. I met you when I was three, with a very small racket that my mother had given me.
My first interaction with you was when I was hitting the ball against a badly damaged wall in my hometown.
Our adventure took a different turn when I stepped onto a court with my father, who taught me how to play.
It was love at first sight. I remember at the age of 11, I think, winning a tournament in France.
Back home, I was looking at the trophy, and when my parents arrived, I said 'That's what I'll do'. And that's the turning point, I guess.
Tennis, you've broken my heart more than once. I don't know if I should thank you for that, but I do.
These are moments I've had to live through, and at the same time, these are moments where you've taught me how tennis uses the language of life.
My most memorable moment... with you, tennis, where should I start?
From winning the European Championships at the age of 14 to winning the Junior Grand Slams, to playing incredible points against the best players on the court...
From winning very special competitions to anything that could put the biggest possible smile on my face.
I owe it all to you. Keep it up, tennis!"
