Fritz outclasses Medvedev to kick off his Masters perfectly!
Taylor Fritz didn't come to Turin to make up the numbers. The American, who enjoyed a top-class 2024 season, is hoping to make an even bigger impression at the Masters.
Placed in a rather tough group, which also includes Daniil Medvedev, Jannik Sinner and Alex De Minaur, the world number 5 will be hoping to make his mark.
Facing Medvedev in the first match of the tournament, Fritz played a very high-level game to dominate a disappointing Russian in less than 1h30 (6-4, 6-3).
Uncompromising on serve (9 aces, 86% of points won on first serve), impactful in the exchange (22 winners) and excellent on the important points, the finalist of the last US Open dictated his law on the court.
Taking advantage of a Medvedev who was far from his best tennis, particularly on serve (8 double faults), the 27-year-old took command of the group, pending the match between Jannik Sinner and Alex De Minaur scheduled for this evening.
