Former world No. 4 Tim Henman is a consultant for Sky Sports on the WTA Finals in Saudi Arabia.
In comments relayed by Tennis365, he made no secret of his disapproval of the sparse stands on Sunday.
Annoyed, he said: "There have been many debates about whether sporting events should be held in Saudi Arabia.
But if you look past that, it's extremely disappointing to see the best players in the world, Iga Swiatek, Coco Gauff, performing in front of an audience like today's (Sunday).
The organizers are in a privileged position since they're not necessarily trying to make money from the entry fees.
So they should go into the schools, because we need spectators here to see the best players in the world and create this atmosphere."
