After a high-intensity match, Ugo Humbert beat Carlos Alcaraz in three sets (6-1, 3-6, 7-5) to reach the quarter-finals of the Paris Masters 1000.
The Frenchman came through after a battle lasting over two hours. He had played a perfect first set, taking Alcaraz's serve twice.
But the Spaniard woke up, raised his game and took advantage of a few Humbert errors to win the second set.
In a high-level decisive set, both men were solid on their face-offs, but it was finally the Frenchman, transcended by the help of the Paris-Bercy crowd, who made the break at 6-5 to win the match.
Ugo Humbert will face Jordan Thompson tomorrow for a place in the semi-finals.
