Kyrgios: "I'm nowhere near my pre-injury level".
Nick Kyrgios made his return to Australia after an absence of almost two years. With only one doubles victory and none in singles, the results are very mixed.
The Australian is still playing with pain and is not very optimistic about the future of his career.
He told a press conference: "I don't know what this season has in store for me.
I've been out for two years, I think I'm hitting the ball well and I'm going to trust the process, but it's clear I'm nowhere near my pre-injury level.
Personally, I don't see myself playing singles after this year, because everything that's required to stay at the top level doesn't give me the assurance, not even, of being able to play a week without physical glitches."
Kyrgios raised the possibility of continuing his career in doubles: "It's easier on the body, I think we could continue as a great duo, Kokkinakis and I, for years to come.
We don't have any plans. Honestly, I can't guarantee that I'll ever play on these courts again.
A year ago, I never thought I'd be playing tennis again, so just to have played this week is very positive and means a lot to me."
