Medvedev: "Alcaraz is a player apart from Federer, Nadal and Djokovic".
Daniil Medvedev was full of praise for Carlos Alcaraz after losing to him in the Wimbledon semi-finals. The Russian explained that this was the most difficult opponent he had faced in his career. More difficult than Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal or Novak Djokovic.
Daniil Medvedev: "The thing is, I played with the 'Big Three' when they were, let's say, older, over 30. So it's a bit different. They're all different, you know, all different in their own way, in their own game.
But I feel like you can't take something from one and compare it to the other because Roger plays on his line, you know, he hits with great technique, he tries shots, he goes to the net.
Novak also plays on his line, but he's completely different, he has incredible defense, he's like a pinball player, the ball comes back at you faster.
Rafa is completely different. He can stay 10 meters behind, but he'll run to every ball and do a left-handed banana shot.
And Carlos, I don't think he has anything that comes from them. It's different, it's a different style of play.
Maybe, I think, where Carlos is different from a lot of players is that we all have our preferences. Someone prefers defense. Someone prefers counter-attacking. Someone prefers to be super aggressive. He can do it all.
You know, sometimes he can do a slice, even a bad slice, and then run and run and try to win like that. But when you hit a lot of times, when guys do that, you can play with them. You can throw an easy shot back at them and they don't want to attack.
But that's not Carlos. Throw him an easy one back, and you know it's over for you. That's what makes it difficult. And probably, in my career, he's the toughest opponent I've ever faced. But I've got time. I've got time to try and do better."
