Medvedev: "I wasn't at all afraid of being disqualified".

Medvedev: I wasn't at all afraid of being disqualified.

Daniil Medvedev seemed to come very close to being disqualified against Carlos Alcaraz in the Wimbledon semi-finals. Following a disagreement with the chair umpire, Ana Asderaki-Moore, over whether or not a ball had bounced twice, he spoke aggressively to her without us being able to understand what he was saying.

The matter seemed serious enough for Mrs Asderaki-Moorea to call on the tournament supervisors to deliberate on the appropriate sanction. In the end, Medvedev simply received a warning for unsportsmanlike conduct. Logical, in his view, since he explained that he hadn't said anything too bad.

Daniil Medvedev: "I don't know if the ball bounced twice. I thought not, but it was tricky. The thing is, a long time ago, I lost at Roland-Garros to Cilic (in 2022) and she (chair umpire Ana Asderaki-Moore) didn't see then that there had only been one bounce. So I had that in mind and I thought 'again, and it's against me again'.

I said something in Russian. Something unpleasant, but not out of line. So I got a warning. [...] I wasn't at all afraid of being disqualified, because, as I explained, I didn't say anything really nasty."
