Medvedev passes Marozsan test with flying colors

Daniil Medvedev goes from strength to strength.

The world number 5 has reassured us, but more importantly, he has reassured himself.

After an average first round during which his level of play had been very inconsistent, Medvedev produced a particularly accomplished match on Thursday.

Faced with one of the rising stars of world tennis, Fabian Marozsan, ranked 51st in the world, the Russian perfectly avoided the trap set for him, delivering a very high level of tennis for just over 2 hours (6-3, 6-2, 7-6).

Despite some inconsistency on his serve, Medvedev largely dominated the proceedings, hitting the ball with superb intensity (36 winners, 24 unforced errors) and offering exceptional return quality (11 successful breaks).

Untouchable in the first two sets, the 28-year-old resisted perfectly to the Hungarian's surge, concluding the match at the end of a hard-fought tie-break.

For a place in the last 16, he faces Cobolli this Saturday.
