Medvedev tames De Minaur and reassures himself
All hope is not lost for Daniil Medvedev. Disappointing and dominated in his opening match against Taylor Fritz (6-4, 6-3), the Russian rallied perfectly to dispose of an unresolved Alex De Minaur with almost disconcerting ease (6-2, 6-4).
Regaining his quality in the exchanges and on serve, he forced the Australian to make far too many errors to have any hope of success (24 unforced errors).
Dominating almost every aspect of the match, Medvedev can still believe in qualification, although he will probably have his work cut out this Thursday, as Jannik Sinner awaits him.
De Minaur, for his part, is all but eliminated and will have to hope for a highly improbable scenario, combined with a win over Taylor Fritz, if he is to reach the semi-finals.
