Mladenovic eliminated in the second round at Colina, Jeanjean the only French survivor
Kristina Mladenovic will not see out the quarter-finals of the WTA 125 tournament in Colina. The Frenchwoman put up a good fight, but lost in two sets to Darja Semenistaja (6-4, 7-6).
The Latvian, efficient on break points (four converted out of six throughout the match), qualifies for the quarter-finals.
The number 6 seed of the Chilean tournament will face either Nina Stojanovic (Serbia) or Oleksandra Oliynykova (Ukraine) for a place in the semi-finals.
Léolia Jeanjean last French hope at Colina
Following the withdrawal of Chloé Paquet and the elimination of Kristina Mladenovic, only one French player remains in the running.
Léolia Jeanjean will attempt to reach the quarter-finals later today. Her task promises to be an arduous one, as she will face clay-court specialist Maria Carle (seeded No. 2 in the tournament) in the afternoon.
Winner over Fernanda Labrana (6-0, 6-2) in her opening match, the 29-year-old will be looking to add a top 100 player to her tally (Argentina is currently 94th in the WTA rankings).
