Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard continues to blossom. After winning the title in Lyon just before the French Open, the 20-year-old continues to make his mark. Ranked 67th in the world this week, he has just won his first official match in a major grass-court tournament at Queen's.
A qualifier, he brilliantly defeated the tournament's number 6 seed, Ben Shelton (6-3, 7-6).
Buoyed by a devastating serve (16 aces, 0 break points conceded) and some very dry forehand strokes, the Frenchman beat the out-of-sorts Shelton.
With a very solid match (25 winners, 9 unforced errors), he reaches the last 16, where a potentially worthy opponent awaits him: Billy Harris (162nd, invited by the tournament organizers).
