Musetti far too strong for Monfils at Roland-Garros!

There was no miracle in Paris. After a very convincing first round, Gaël Monfils simply didn't have the level of play to upset a very solid Lorenzo Musetti this evening (7-5, 6-1, 6-4 in 2h11).

On a packed Philippe Chatrier court, Musetti delivered a very convincing match. After a thunderous start from his opponent, he didn't panic, holding on throughout the first act. Taking advantage of Monfils' physical slump, the Transalpine regained the upper hand, dictating play right to the end of the match.

Winning the first set a little against the run of play (Monfils having served for the set at 5-4), the 22-year-old grew in confidence, never letting go of his prey. Back to his best (31 winners, 17 unforced errors) and once again demonstrating his mastery of the game on ochre, Musetti logically qualified for the third round. In the next round, he is likely to be the first serious test for Novak Djokovic.
