Musetti: "I'm happy with the one-handed backhand".

Musetti: I'm happy with the one-handed backhand.

Lorenzo Musetti put in a top-class performance on Friday.

Up against a very solid Alexander Zverev, the Italian suffered and was dominated, but finally managed to turn the match around and win (2-6, 7-6, 6-4).

Confirming his excellent second half of the 2024 season, the 22-year-old prodigy was very satisfied at the press conference.

Asked about his success, he spoke in particular about the importance of his one-handed backhand: "I've always played with a one-handed backhand since I was a kid.

Obviously, I think the advantages are that you can probably get more feel for the slice and the cushion.

Let's say, the tactile side of the game.

But there are also, I would say, disadvantages in this modern era, because as I mentioned, it's probably easier to counter with a two-handed backhand.

It's also easier to cover the court because you have more support on the arm and I think the best players like, for example, Zverev, Sinner or Alcaraz use it very well.

I think they can build a career on it. But I'm happy with the one-handed backhand and will continue to use it.

I think it's probably my most natural stroke and there are obviously disadvantages, but it gives me a lot of advantages in my game."
