Putintseva wins third career title in Birmingham!
Clearly not the most closely followed tournament this week. Placed in a week when the focus was on the ATP and WTA 500, the English tournament nonetheless had the merit of delivering its verdict.
While some members of the top 30 made the trip (Ostapenko, Krejcikova, Cirstea), it was ultimately Yulia Putintseva, ranked 41st in the world, who walked away with the trophy.
After a very good tournament, in which she conceded just one set in 5 matches, the Kazakh reassured herself and even took advantage of the opportunity to close the gap in the WTA rankings, as she will be 34th on Monday.
Disposing of the returning Tomljanovic in the final (6-1, 7-6), she wins her third career title (after Nuremberg in 2019 and Budapest in 2021) and is clearly back in contention for top seed status at Wimbledon.
