Sabalenka: "I expected Iga to win the gold medal".
Aryna Sabalenka is slowly returning to competition.
Having missed out on the Olympic Games, the Belarusian made her return to competition in Washington last week. A semi-finalist in the USA, she has not yet returned to her best level, but is slowly getting back into the swing of things.
Questioned in the press conference, Sabalenka discussed the results of the Olympic Games, and in particular the defeat of Iga Swiatek in the semi-finals. I'm really embarrassed to say this, but I didn't really follow the Olympic Games. I was just checking the results at the end of the day, watching a bit of each sport, but not really.
I'm not in my best phase yet, I'd say. I'm coming back from an injury and I'm trying to concentrate on myself.
I don't want to say anything bad about the players, but, to be honest, I expected Iga to win the gold medal. This is Paris, this is her home. That's what I expected."
