Sinner beats Popyrin in a charity match in Melbourne
Jannik Sinner has decided not to play a tournament before the Australian Open.
However, the Italian played a charity match this Tuesday against Alexei Popyrin on Rod Laver Arena.
He won the match 6-4, 7-6. In a post-match interview, he said: "2024 was an extraordinary season for me. But it's already over. It's now 2025.
We start every year in Melbourne. It's an extraordinary city. So much has happened for me, both on and off the pitch.
Very special things. I'm happy to be back here playing these kinds of games.
Even if it's an exhibition match. For us, it's important to get a feel for the court and the rhythm.
Thank you very much to the public for coming. We'll see what happens at the official tournament.
I was in the snow for Christmas. Then I came here. The first day, it was 40 degrees. It was a bit different."
