Jannik Sinner is not trembling at home. Having arrived in Turin to compete in the Masters tournament as a heavy favorite, the world number 1 is currently coping very well with the pressure and popular enthusiasm he is generating in Italy.
After a fine first victory over Alex De Minaur on Sunday (6-3, 6-4), he followed up his performance on Tuesday with a commanding win over an in-form Taylor Fritz (6-4, 6-4).
With one foot already in the semi-finals, the Transalpine was understandably asked about the huge phenomenon he generates in Italy and more specifically in Turin, where every one of his matches is an event: "No, I'm surprised. I mean, I'm just a 23-year-old tennis player. Of course, I have sponsors who are based in Turin. Playing in Italy for an Italian is very, very special.
As I've said before, I never take things for granted. I'm still surprised sometimes. It's just not normal. But I'm trying to get used to it. I'm just trying to play good tennis on the court, and that's why I'm here."
