Sinner suffers but qualifies in Shanghai

Jannik Sinner will be in the last 16 in Shanghai.

After a very quiet first match, the world number 1 was seriously tested on Sunday.

Up against a bluffing Tomas Martin Etcheverry, he needed more than 2h30 of play to get through (6-7, 6-4, 6-2).

Uninhibited and highly effective on the first ball in particular (85% of points won behind his first serve), the Argentine long hampered Sinner before finally exploding at the end of the match.

More inconsistent than usual, the Transalpine nevertheless managed to avoid the trap and will now face the winner of the match between Shelton and Carballes Baena in the last 16.
