Svitolina: "My mission is to bring joy to the Ukrainian people".
Elina Svitolina was a guest on the Served with Andy Roddick podcast. The former American world No.1 was full of admiration for Svitolina and her commitment, asking her how she found all her energy.
The Ukrainian replied: "It motivates me to get up every day and do everything I can.
Of course, it's complicated with this war going on in my country, getting up every day with bad news.
I see it as my mission to bring joy to Ukrainians.
As a Ukrainian, I'd like to do more, to do things that have an impact. I've started my foundation in 2019 and I can't thank the people who contribute enough.
We organize tennis tournaments in Ukraine as well as tennis clinics for children, a few times a year, for all ages.
We also have psychologists working with the children, which was something important I wanted to set up.
I'm delighted that it's been a success, having worked with a psychologist myself. The children need it all the more, for their parents who are stressed and don't know the future."
