Tiafoe stops Popyrin to reach US Open quarter-finals!
Frances Tiafoe seems to be back to his best in New York. He'll be playing in the quarter-finals of the US Open 2024 after beating Novak Djokovic's loser, Alexei Popyrin. A solid attacking player, he won in three hours and four sets (6-4, 7-6, 2-6, 6-3).
Tiafoe chose the right moment to play his best tennis again. After a very complicated season which saw him go from disappointment to disappointment, he managed to get back on track in Cincinnati, where he reached the final ten days ago, only beaten by Jannik Sinner.
And he confirms this clear upturn in form on the courts of Flushing Meadows, where he will face Grigor Dimitrov on Tuesday in a bid to reach the semi-finals again in front of his home crowd. He did so two years ago, when it took a fine Carlos Alcaraz to stop him. This time, however, the Spaniard is no longer in the running for the title.
