Video - Medvedev seriously insults the chair umpire and almost gets disqualified?
The Wimbledon semi-final between Carlos Alcaraz and Daniil Medvedev came close to an unexpected end. Just as the Spaniard had broken to regain 5-4 in the 1st set, the Russian disagreed with the chair umpire's (Eva Asderaki-Moore) decision to announce that the ball had bounced twice before he touched it (see video below).
The world n°5 then addressed Ms Asderaki-Moore, although we can't be sure we understood what he was saying, but in a way that was sufficiently virulent for her to appeal to the tournament supervisors to decide on the appropriate sanction.
The words in question (which could be "Fuck off, fuck off, fuck off", see video below) must therefore be serious enough to warrant disqualification. After deliberation, Medvedev was eventually issued with a warning for unsportsmanlike conduct and allowed to resume his match. But it seems that the Russian was not far from disaster.
