Will French tennis soon be back on top?
French tennis is slowly beginning to rebuild its reputation.
Even if no French player today seems to have the level to win a Grand Slam, and we're still waiting for real successors to the Four Musketeers (Tsonga, Simon, Gasquet, Monfils), France seems to have glorious days ahead.
Indeed, as the year draws to a close, two Frenchmen are in the world's Top 20 (Ugo Humbert and Arthur Fils), and others are increasingly making their presence felt (Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard, Arthur Cazaux, Benjamin Bonzi...).
When asked about the state of French tennis at world level, Ivan Ljubicic, head of the French tennis top flight, declared: "Today, it's a little better, but it's a long process.
But above all, I think we need to give the players a sense of responsibility, so that they can take charge of their own project and be ambitious.
Ugo Humbert and Arthur Fils, 14th and 20th, are the starting point, not the goal. What's missing is a champion who wins a Grand Slam and plays the Masters regularly."
